We are looking for talent as Backend Java - Experience in Telcom.  This role sits within the Corrections / Jail Department, supporting the telecommunications infrastructure that connects inmates with their families and enables facility operations. 


Role Overview

  • We are seeking a skilled and experienced Backend Java Developer with strong expertise in telecommunications domain, specifically in communication protocols such as VoIP and SIP. You will design, develop, and maintain backend services that power voice communication systems deployed across correctional facilities nationwide. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance, scalable, and reliable solutions in a mission-critical environment. 


Required Qualifications 

  • 5+ years of professional experience in Backend Java development. 
  • Strong expertise in Java (Java 8, 11, or 17) and frameworks such as Spring Boot and Spring Framework. 
  • Hands-on experience with VoIP and SIP protocols in production environments. 
  • Deep understanding of telecom domain concepts: call routing, media gateways, RTP/RTCP, SDP. 
  • Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and microservices architectures. 
  • Proficiency with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) and NoSQL (Redis, MongoDB).0
  • Familiarity with message brokers such as Kafka or RabbitMQ. 
  • Experience with containerization tools: Docker, Kubernetes. 
  • Strong knowledge of Git and version control workflows. 
  •  Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. 


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working in corrections, public safety, or other regulated/government-adjacent industries. 
  • Knowledge of media server technologies (Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, Kamailio). 
  • Familiarity with WebRTC and real-time communication platforms. 
  • Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure cloud environments. 
  • Prior experience with Securus Technologies or similar inmate communication platforms. 
  • Knowledge of CALEA compliance and lawful intercept standards.


Key Responsibilities 

  • Design, develop, and maintain Java-based backend microservices and APIs for telecom systems. 
  • Implement and integrate communication protocols including VoIP (Voice over IP) and SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) into enterprise applications. 
  • Collaborate with telecom architects and front-end teams to deliver end-to-end communication solutions. 
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize existing backend services for performance and reliability. 
  • Work within Agile/Scrum development processes and contribute to sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives. 
  • Write clean, testable, and well-documented code following best practices and coding standards. 
  • Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers when needed. 
  • Ensure system security, data privacy, and compliance with correctional facility standards.
