Position Purpose:

We are looking for a motivated and creative leader to manage Petco’s Store Network Engineering team, which is responsible for modernizing, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise networks and applications. This position is responsible for ensuring the uptime, availability, and scalability of our store networking infrastructure. This position will manage and lead a team of onshore and nearshore network engineers and technicians that supports critical infrastructure for our 1500+ stores. Will work cross-functionally with other internal organizations, including information security, e-commerce, core network engineering, store operations, facilities, DevOps, and more. Provides guidance, road maps, principles, standards, and best practices. Focused on enabling business and IT leaders to make investment decisions that balance and prioritize current operational demands, disruptions, and opportunities with the longer-term strategic vision of the organization. Influences key business decisions.


Essential Job Functions:

The incumbent must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation.

· Serves as a thought leader in the network and telecom space, championing transformation initiatives to streamline and automate technology and leverage 3rd parties and vendors.

· Provide advanced technical leadership for complex project work, including functional subsystem upgrades for mission-critical network devices and services as well as strategic upgrades to the network.

· Establish requirements, provide analysis of network security risks and requirements, network design, network partitioning or segmentation, and network architecture definition.

· Develop and maintain 2 to 3-year strategic infrastructure plan including long-term vision, technology roadmaps, goals and objectives.

· Provide advanced expertise in the development of network test, validation, and integration plans on projects, and assurance of network integrity.

· Work independently with vendors to understand, test, and drive new innovative features

· Defines goals, improves technologies, and resolves problems based on assigned directives.

· Ensures that quality objectives for the unit, as agreed to within service levels, are achieved.

· Manages team to ensure key business objectives or performance/service level objectives are met.

· Ensures reporting of key metrics for technical operations activities.

· Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

· Follows processes and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

· Acts as advisor to team members to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems.

· Oversees the prioritization of operational needs and requirements.

· Develops operations-related plans, budgets, and policies and procedures.

· Involved with purchasing decisions, recommendations and budgeting.

· Leads Operational RCA and event management reporting.

· Reviews and approves change management requests through ServiceNow using ITIL concepts

· Additional duties as assigned.


The Skills You Bring:

· Ten or more years of progressively responsible professional experience with 7+ years of experience in management of large-scale networks in a distributed environment.

· Experience with various SDN (Software-Defined Network) solutions, including integration with Ansible, Python, or other API-driven approaches to managing network constructs in Multi-Cloud, or experience with automating repetitive tasks in support of increasing network reliability & resiliency

· Strong understanding of network technologies in a design context, including: LAN (traditional STP plus fabric), BGP/OSPF, Tunneling (GRE, IPSec), wireless APs and controllers, cloud networking (public and private), QoS/shaping, SNMP/Netflow/Syslog, firewalls/WAF, VNFs.

· Experience with network management protocols and systems

· Experience with Cisco networking technologies

· Experience with wireless technologies (Cisco/Mist)

· Experience with TCP/IP and common network protocols

· Experience with routing, switching, and IP subnetting

· Experience working in an E-commerce setting preferred

· IP routing across a multi-site, hierarchical architecture

· Experience with VMware VeloCloud SDWAN

· Architecture, design, and engineering of automation for zero-touch-provisioning (ZTP), configuration management, and operating software management

· Network configuration scripting with Perl/Python/Ansible/Bash/etc.

· Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Python, API and AWS.

· Experience designing REST APIs and developing RESTful Web Services

· Experience building scalable services in AWS

· Design and Implementation of automation tools

· Configuration hardening of network and peripheral devices

· Solid Understanding of the OSI model, routing and switching protocols, network security, IPv4 and IPv6 networking, subnetting, and operational experience


Work Environment:

Typically, the incumbent will be in an office setting seated, in artificial light and working for prolonged periods of time on the computer. Some travel may be required.

Supervisory Responsibility:

The incumbent will supervise exempt level domain and senior enterprise architect personnel, including interviewing, hiring, training, assignment delegation, periodic performance evaluation and disciplinary action and termination when necessary.


Education/Experience:

· BA/BS degree or equivalent work experience

· 10+ years in the IT space, including wide area network/carriers; data center and enterprise branch networking; firewalls, routers, switches, wireless access points and controllers; and telecommunications technologies; experience with large, complex, and/or global organizations a plus

· 2+ years managing and maintaining 500+ locations/branches

· 3+ years supervisory responsibilities at a unit or team level

· Experience managing project resources

· Strong leadership skills, customer focus, and sense of urgency

· Ability to learn quickly, check details, meet deadlines

· Strong problem-solving and organizational skills, people management skills, interpersonal and communications skills
