Purpose of the position


The Programmer Analyst - RPG will be responsible to exemplify best practices while developing and implementing efficient technical solutions, adhering to, and promoting established departmental standards and development methodologies.

The Programmer Analyst - RPG will continuously develop and utilize technical expertise in IBMi-based programming languages, primarily RPG.

The Programmer Analyst - RPG must be innovative and creative in solving complex problems.

The Sr. Programmer Analyst - RPG will have the ability to think critically and analytically, actively contribute to various projects, tasks, and support priorities to meet organizational commitments.


Principal responsibilities

  • Thorough and documented analysis, design, development, and testing for new and enhancement programming projects while delivering assignments to meet agreed-upon timeframes and milestones.
  • Collaborate within a virtual team setting.
  • Analyze functional requirements to determine technical design and creating technical specifications for larger scale projects.
  • Incorporate performance and auditing considerations in delivered applications and development.
  • Assist junior developers and work with peers for solution design, development, and reviews.
  • Address production support issues; identifying and resolving at root cause level.
  • Identify and suggest new and evolving technologies and provide management with insight and recommendations/improvements to current systems.
  • Responsible for the adherence to change controls and change management protocols, IT governance policies and procedures.
  • Comply fully with all government standards and regulations
  • Work closely with IT Management, technical, and business organization team members following appropriate structured software development and project management controls, methodologies, and standards.

  • Experience in exposing and consuming web services, JSON, REST APIs on IBMi is a plus.
  • Experience with EDI transactions (extract/load/send/receive/translation/mapping) and related tools is a plus.
  • Experience with leading a team, guiding, and assisting other team members while leading mid to large size projects end-to-end, is a plus.

  • 7+ years of professional experience with RPG(ILE/FREE) using Procedures, Service Programs, and Functions, within the IBMi platform. -M
  • 5+ years of experience with Embedded and Interactive SQL. Experience in creating and utilizing views in development practices. -M
  • 5+ years of experience in advanced DB2 database design, utilizing techniques such as referential integrity, and normalization. -M
  • 2+ years of experience in Rational Development tools for IBMi. -M
  • Experience with full-life cycle implementations of IBMi solutions. -M
  • Change management experience and familiarity with an IBMi change management tool such as Turnover. -M
  • BS Degree in Computer Science or equivalent discipline or a combination of education and experience. -M
