Shared Capabilities focuses on enabling technologies that help Thomson Reuters deliver digital products to our customers. Our mission is to build a durable competitive advantage for TR by providing “building blocks” that get value-to-market faster. As an example, we manage TR’s Customer Identity capability.

As a Engineering Team Lead on the Design System team, you’ll work closely with designers, architects, software engineers, content strategists, accessibility specialists, and researchers to develop, grow, and maintain our global design system. About the Role:
In this opportunity as Engineering Team Lead, you will:

  • Create and build: Have deep experience with responsive UI design methodology and processes (user- centered and iterative design). Translate design language into a reusable code library. Create scalable, accessible and testable components. Document and communicate with engineering teams.

  • Be part of a collaborative team: Work closely with UX Designers, Accessibility Specialists, Content Strategists, UX Researchers, Software Engineering and Architects in a collaborative team-oriented environment to lead the project from a software engineering perspective and create new components and tools to be used across our entire organization. Advocate for the consumers of the Design System (product engineering teams) while developing features that align to the needs of the end-user.

  • Be an Effective Communicator: Share ideas, participate in peer-reviews, and exhibit strong listening skills. You justify and articulate engineering decisions during design reviews. You lead brainstorming sessions with product teams and can share outcomes using your excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Be Curious & Innovative: Continuously update yourself with next generation user experiences, technology, and contribute to process development practices. Turn user research and usability feedback into easy-to-use solutions. Gather, analyze, and synthesize UX & technology needs for complex product and user requirements. Passion for frontend engineering and bringing systems thinking to the design world, including a relentless pursuit of test automation.

  • Preferred Tech Stack: React, Redux, Angular, Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, CSS/SASS, Web Components, Webpack, FAST Web Components, Lit, Chromium, API design (REST, GraphQL, gRPC) and patterns


About You:
You’re a fit for the role of Engineering Team Lead if you have:

  • Have experience leading a group of engineers and enable them to deliver promptly and efficiently.

  • At least 6 years of experience in front-end development, with a focus on design system in enterprise applications.

  • Experience building a Design System and/or customizing an existing system (Google Material, Microsoft Fluent, Bootstrap, etc..)

  • Ability to partner with product owners, user experience designers, and technology leaders to establish, promote, and advance a frontend architecture strategy and best practices.

  • Expertise in front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related frameworks (React, Angular, etc.).

  • Preferred Technology Knowledge:  React, Redux, Angular, Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, CSS/SASS, Web Components, Webpack, FAST Web Components, Lit, Chromium, PlayWright.  Depth knowledge around API design (REST, GraphQL, gRPC) and patterns (ex backend-for-frontend)

  • Experience with a variety of web application designs including monolithic, micro frontends, SOA, micro services, and web components.

  • Knowledge of component design and principles such as atoms, molecules, and organisms.

  • Knowledge of accessibility standards

  • Experience with building components in popular frameworks and libraries such as React, Angular, and W3C Web Component standards.

  • Experience with analytic tools such as Pendo, Adobe Analytics and Google Analytics

  • Experience with Agile development methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and solve complex technical problems.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or related field.
