The Commercial Engineering group at Thomson Reuters is looking for a Engineering Manager - Digital Search, with Search platform expertise who will be responsible for designing, building & maintaining best in class modern search experiences by leveraging the Digital Web & Search paradigm's best practices.
About the Role
In this opportunity as an Engineering Manager- Digital Search, you will:
- Be a People Leader : Build and manage a team of software engineers with varied skills and experience levels. Coach and mentor current and future leaders within the group, be responsible for identifying individual training needs proactively, conduct performance reviews and maintain a healthy team culture
- Be a Project Leader: Train/coach team members in technical delivery. Strategically plan, design and implement software to deliver value to customers, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Be a Technical Leader: Effectively contribute to enterprise-level Search ecosystems in development, technical oversight, and enterprise systems integrations. Design and develop technical approaches and solutions and provide recommendations on building effectively on the Search platform. Provide technical oversight to the development team around analysis, development and unit testing of modules & artifacts.
- Be an efficient Stakeholder Manager : Collaborate and engage with external and internal stakeholders such as business teams, product owners, project management in defining the roadmap for products and processes. Act as point of contact in resolving stakeholder issues and coordinate the third-party relationship with outsourced team and vendors for applications and troubleshoots problems with department users and administrators; responsible for managing development teams
- Be a Decision Maker : Make quick and effective data-driven decisions, with good problem solving and analytical skills to infer qualitative and quantitative data and roll-out strategy that aligns with company goals.
- Focus on Continuous improvement and technical standards – Drive improvements in productivity, architecture for software development, prepare technical specifications and, leverage development best practices as a part of daily responsibilities like code review, build and release etc.
About You
You are fit for the role of an Engineering Manager – Digital Search if you have:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science discipline or equivalent
- Expertise in Coveo Search platform or one of the trending search technologies such as Elastic Search/ Lucidworks / Algolia or other related technologies
- 6 to 10 years of software development experience using Java/.NET/JavaScript/Python and/or other core languages across the technology industry
- Strong skills managing Search Tool, integrating data collection, visualization, analysis, logging and storage
- Experience with enabling & creating alerting and reporting on operational metrics with Search Stack
- Confident in setup, provisioning and management of Search Tool cross-cluster search, handling scaling, log aggregation across multiple data sources and operation needs
- Deep understanding of performing federated search across various properties, crawling and indexing on-demand base
- Excellent in data structures, algorithms and problem solving & debugging skills
- Stronghold on SQL & No-SQL databases
- Ability to write and review clean, readable, secure code that is time-efficient & easy to understand
- Expert design skills including significant knowledge of core libraries and common design patterns across front end, backend
- Confident in designing the low-level and high-level designs and system architecture using Lucidchart/Visio or related tools
- 3 to 4 years of leadership experience in setting technical goals, delegating tasks and a track record of mentoring & coaching team members & creating new leaders
- Able to provide technical guidance and oversight to a team of 5-8 developers and testers.
- Customer-first approach to software development with a mindset of meeting the deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (ability to communicate effectively with technical staff, Business Analysts, management, and business team members)
- Comfortable in working & collaborating with a diverse team spread across the globe
Good to have:
- The in-depth technical expertise on Coveo Digital Search Platform
- Hands-on experience in Logstash, Kibana, Machine Learning, Kafka & Grafana will be a great asset.
- Front-end & Server-side programming technologies
- Working experience or fundamental knowledge of Angular/Reactjs or similar frontend technologies is much appreciated.
- Managing code and changes in a team environment to include experience with source control utilities, such as Git/ Microsoft TFS/ Perforce
- Comfortable leading design discussions with small to larger groups in addition to hands-on development
- Experience with XML/JSON processing and transformations (XPath, XSLT, etc.)
- Cloud technology experience: AWS, Azure
- Working experience of Docker is good to have
