The Applied ML and Backend Engineer will help build large-scale systems that use large language models and other AI technologies to enable both customers and internal users. In this role you will work cross-functionally with engineers and researchers to integrate ML solutions into Casetext’s legal tech applications.  

 

About the role:
As the Software Engineer Machine Learning will: 

  • Design and develop robust and scalable back end services and applications that use machine learning solutions (particularly in natural language processing and large language models)  

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with team members at many levels, especially those in Engineering and Innovation  

  • Work independently to maintain ownership over a backend system as well as to identify and address areas for improvement in existing systems and processes  

About you:  

  • 2-5 years of experience in backend or full-stack software engineering  

  • Very proficient in Python with recent experience  

  • Experience designing data-intensive systems, familiar with relational databases and APIs  

  • Demonstrable ability to write high quality, well documented code and provide code reviews to other engineers  

  • Very comfortable with test-driven development or otherwise writing comprehensive automated tests for any code  

  • Significant experience in communicating with other technical teams, including management, to collect requirements, identify tasks, provide estimates and meet production deadlines  

  • Ideally has worked previously with writing or deploying machine learning models for use in a production setting  

  • Experience working with a cloud service provider like AWS, Azure, or GCP  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Math, or a related field.
