As an Automation Engineer , your role involves implementing factory automation solutions to support Assembly Test manufacturing objectives related to cycle time, inventory, quality, and productivity. You'll specialize in mechanical or electrical design , sub-components, and industry standards, ensuring compliance with safety requirements. Collaboration with various teams including site automation, central/site process, procurement, and safety is crucial to identify opportunities, select solution providers, and standardize designs. You'll also establish strategic partnerships with automation vendors to align their roadmap with Micron's needs.


  • Establish standards for automation solutions:

    • Standardize mechanical and electrical designs , sub-assemblies, and process control solutions.
    • Ensure supplier compliance with SEMI and country-specific safety standards.
    • Standardize designs for WIP carriers like FOUPS, Cassettes, Magazines, JEDEC trays, and PCB racks.
    • Develop and review process tool automation requirements tailored for AMHS and Stocker interfaces.
    • Enhance factory tool layout standards to meet AMHS, stockers, and ASRS requirements.
    • Publish Design for Automation guidelines for new products.
  • Review opportunities and develop a global factory automation roadmap:

    • Conduct design reviews for automation solutions.
    • Standardize designs across the network based on best-known methods (BKMs) or prototyping outcomes.
    • Review technical procurement specifications (Doc2/TAR) in vendor purchase orders.
    • Establish and review ROI analysis methods.
  • Foster strategic partnerships with automation solution providers:

    • Research and survey industrial best practices and automation trends.
    • Align supplier technology roadmaps with Micron's automation requirements.
    • Drive innovation that delivers significant cost savings.
    • Provide cost and lead-time models to support supplier negotiations.
  • Establish performance KPIs for automation solutions across the manufacturing network:

    • Ensure solutions meet published payback analysis requirements.
    • Develop and publish metrics related to AMHS and Stocker performance.
    • Review and drive system performance improvements through continuous improvement programs (CIP).
  • Automation/AMHS integration:

    • Define requirements for AMHS software and equipment integration.
    • Act as the primary interface with AMHS vendors throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders including process and equipment owners to achieve improvement objectives.
    • Model automated systems in Assembly & Test facilities to define standards, and equipment requirements, and facilitate necessary changes.
